Many are changed by continuing practice; some become more forgiving, others less fearful. No previous experience in this form of prayer needed for you to attend.

They coordinate the ushers/greeters, find people to bring the gifts before the offertory, and make sure all goes smoothly during Mass. After Mass they put everything back in place in the sacristy as appropriate and lock up as necessary. This important ministry is open to parishioners and training is available.
